Jalapeño Avocado Ranch Dip is a flavorful, creamy, sour cream based dip that can be served with veggies or chips.
One of the first recipes I published on My Texas Kitchen was a Skinny Jalapeno Ranch Cilantro Dip. It’s been many years since that early post and I now prefer to make my ranch dip with light sour cream. A package of ranch dip mix + sour cream makes the perfect dip for a veggie tray. When my kids ask for ranch that is what they get, rather than the salad dressing.
I do want to note that if you are looking for a Chuy’s Copycat Recipe, this is NOT it. It has similar ingredients, but this Jalapeno Avocado Ranch Dip is thicker and the addition of the avocado really tones down the heat.
Healthier Ranch Dip
This version is lower in calories and fat by using light sour cream rather than mayonnaise. It does use a packet of ranch seasoning for convenience. If you are watching your sodium content you can use half of a packet or you may prefer my Greek yogurt based version that does not use ranch seasoning.
Recipe Notes
Jalapeños – With five jalapenos, my family agrees the recipe is very mild. To make it spicier, use more jalapenos or keep some of the seeds in.
Cilantro – I recommend using only the cilantro leaves, it results in a smoother consistency.
Ranch Seasoning – Be sure to use the Ranch Dip Mix. It seems to thicken better.
Milk – You can thin this dip with milk. If I’m serving this with vegetables I like to leave it a little thicker, and thin it out if I’m serving it with chips.
