Hi y'all! I'm Alaine.
I am the Registered Dietitian, food blogger, and mom of three boys behind My Texas Kitchen.
My husband and I live with our three boys and our Bluetick Coonhound in a small town in Central Texas. I focus on realistic, family-friendly meals that celebrate authentic Texas flavors.

My Professional Background
While I love a good comfort food recipe, my approach to cooking is grounded in science and experience.
- Registered Dietitian (RD): Commission on Dietetic Registration
- Dietetic Internship: Texas A&M University
- B.S. in Nutritional Sciences: Texas A&M University
- B.S. in Agricultural and Applied Economics: Texas Tech University
- Clinical Experience: Former clinical dietitian in acute care hospital settings, outpatient counseling, and consultant to long-term-care facilities.
Overview of My Texas Kitchen
I started this blog in May 2014 while studying Nutritional Sciences at Texas A&M University. I then went on to complete my dietetic internship through Texas A&M and earn my credential as a Registered Dietitian.
The blog was put on hold while I worked full-time in Clinical Dietetics. Life changes eventually led me to becoming a stay-at-home-mom. With three kids under 5 at home, I worked on this site in 15-minutes blocks of time - needing an outlet, but also determined to share something valuable with the world.

Where Economics meets Nutrition
My background is a little different than most dietitians, it's a blend of science and economics. My degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Texas Tech, helps me look at food through a wider lens. I have knowledge of the food systems from producer to the consumer. I care about helping you get the best value for your family, without sacrificing nutrition.
Agriculture is also a big part of our personal lives. My husband works in the industry, and we have many friends who are producers, so we truly appreciate the hard work and challenges that go into getting food to our tables.

What You Can Expect To Find on My Texas Kitchen
While I started by sharing mostly healthy recipes, My Texas Kitchen has evolved over the years. Today, I focus on realistic, family-friendly meals using ingredients that are readily available in the small Central Texas town I call home.
I follow a non-diet mentality when cooking for my family. I focus on providing balanced meals that nourish the body and the soul. That means you will see a mix of healthy dishes alongside sweet treats and traditional comfort food.
- Realistic Weeknight Dinners: Because I know what it's like to cook with kids underfoot, evenings spent at the ballpark and limited grocery options.
- Authentic Texas Recipes: Preserving classic dishes and flavors from across the Lone Star State.
- Balanced Nutrition: Practical tips and advice without the diet culture noise.
My Recipe Testing Promise
I personally test every single recipe multiple times in my home kitchen. While I do sometimes use a freelance photographer, I don't buy content or use stock photos. When you see a recipe on My Texas Kitchen, you know it has been cooked, tasted, and approved by a busy mom and Registered Dietitian.
