A recipe for a sweet orange breakfast waffle, flavored with orange zest, juice, and cinnamon. This elevated breakfast can be ready in 15 minutes.

My kids love Pillsbury orange rolls. I don’t particularly like to buy them, but I was inspired to make a quick breakfast with similar flavors – sweet, orange and cinnamon. I opted for a waffle recipe because that is something easy I can whip up and make before heading out to a morning sports game.
These waffles are soft and not super dense. If you like a thicker waffle, simply decrease the amount of milk in the recipe.
Ingredients you’ll need
- Dry ingredients: all-purpose flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, sugar
- Orange Zest: The zest from 1-2 oranges.
- Milk: I use regular 2% milk.
- Orange Juice: This adds extra orange flavor and sweetness. Milk can be substituted if juice is not available.
- Eggs
- Butter: Melted, slightly cooled butter. A neutral flavored oil may be substituted.
- Vanilla Extract
How to make
A brief visual guide to making the waffle recipe. Please see the recipe card at the bottom of the page for ingredient measurements and instructions.
- Step 1: Whisk together dry ingredients and orange zest.
- Step 2: Mix in milk, orange juice, eggs, butter and vanilla extract.
- Step 3: Pour into preheated waffle iron.
- Step 4: Cook until waffles reach desired level of doneness.
Serving
Serve waffles warm with desired toppings. These make a sweeter waffle so syrup is optional.
I like to serve with orange slices and powdered sugar for what feels like a fun and somewhat elevated weekend breakfast. My son likes to top with fresh blueberries, and I think they would be delightful with a blueberry syrup.
Waffles are best enjoyed the day they are made.
